INDIGENOUS PEOPLE

Visit the towns of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán.

San Juan Chamula is only 10 km from San Cristóbal. Chamula is a name used to name various Mayan ethnic groups that inhabit the Chiapas highlands: tzotzil, tzeltal, mame, tojolabal, choles, It is the head of the municipality of Chamula, the town has preserved pre-Hispanic cultures and customs.

Zinacantán was known in a good part of the Mesoamerican region for the exchange of its products, mainly amber and salt. It is characterized by its diplomacy and ability to negotiate, when the Spaniards arrived they allowed them to settle in the valley of Jovel to found the "Ciudad Real" (today San Cristóbal de las Casas), in order to obtain from the conquerors support against their neighboring enemies .

Walk through San Juan Chamula for two and a half hours, around the town, the church and the plaza. Afterwards, visit Zinacantán for two hours, where you can visit a local indigenous family. Includes: ground transportation, tickets and guide in English or Spanish.

SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS; CHIAPAS, MX

San Cristóbal de Las Casas is the head of the homonymous municipality in the center of the state of Chiapas. It is the largest urban center in the region of Los Altos de Chiapas and the third largest in the state, behind Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Tapachula. The city is located in the center of the Jovel Valley, the temperatures of the region are usually temperate and there are very abundant rains. The mountains that surround the city are covered with coniferous forests. The city was founded by Diego de Mazariegos and a set of Spanish settlers in 1528 with the name of Ciudad Real de Chiapa, in lands that they obtained after defeating the tsotsiles.

Currently, it is a cosmopolitan city considered by some as the intercultural capital of Chiapas, as well as being the main tourist location in the state. In 2003, it was included in the Pueblos Mágicos program by the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico, because it stands out for its architecture and sociocultural manifestations. In 2010 and 2011, it was granted by the President of the Republic, the recognition of the "Diversification of the Mexican Tourist Product", which made it consolidate as "The Most Magical of the Magical Towns of Mexico".

HORSEBACK RIDING

Horseback ride through trails in the mountains to the indigenous town of San Juan Chamula for an hour and a half. Meet the town for an hour walking and return to San Cristobal on horseback.

SUMIDERO CANYON - CHIAPA DE CORZO

The Sumidero Canyon, is within the municipality of Chiapa de Corzo, its relevance is such that it is part of the Chiapas shield and was nominated to be one of the "7 New Natural Wonders" as the only representative of Mexico.

This canyon has a cliff whose height goes a little beyond the 1000 m above sea level, rises on the bed of the Grijalva River and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The geological fault opened approximately twelve million years ago in the Sierra Norte de Chiapas.

Before leaving, visit Chiapa de Corzo, besides being the first city established in the state and the first capital, it is classified as a magical town thanks to the important cultural and folkloric range.

Travel by boat the Grijalva River through the canyon of the sinkhole for two hours (Embarcadero Nandambua), also visit the city of Chiapa de Corzo for one hour.

MONTEBELLO LAKE -  CHIFLON WATERFALLS

Tour with the possibility of swimming through the lagoons of Montebello whose impressive coloration in its green-turquoise waters will make you fall in love. Travel through its five main lagoons. Visit to the Chiflon waterfall for two hours also with the possibility of swimming, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Chiapas due to its height, the San Vicente River gives rise to a series of waterfalls that are named: El Suspiro, Ala de Angel and Velo de Novia, this last one with a drop of 70 meters tall.
